In a canon digital camera is there a way to make it take pictures at a lower resolution to save card space?
On my old camera there is a way to make it take pictures at a smaller megapixel size so the images are smaller and take up less space on the memory card. Is there a way I can do that on my canon powershot d10? I don’t see it anyhere ! ![]()
No I left th manual at home and I’m in Florida now. And Paul I know app of that but I don’t know how

Handbook.
You can save space a number of ways:
Take images at lower resolution (if you have a 10MP camera you probably have 5MP more than you’ll ever need, take at a smaller resolution and still get great prints at A4 size)
Use a higher compression (in canon cameras you have a jagged curve or a smooth curve, select the jagged curve)
Take fewer pictures: Digital is great for seeing what you’ve taken straight away, no processing costs or anything etc, but somefolk get trigger happy.
Delete pictures that you know are duff as you go along.
Buy more memory. It’s so cheap these days and reusable too!
Nothing in the manual?
On that camera you can go all the way down to 1600×1200 resolution. Set it there and you’ll fit millions onto the card.
But why on Earth would you want to do that? Just doesn’t make sense. Why pay top dollar for a 12MPixel camera to use one or two megapixels?
Just buy another SD card. They’re almost free nowadays.
This makes no sense. Why take lower res. pics when memory cards are so cheap? However, as you are able to connect to the internet, go to canonusa.com and ask them. The site is pretty to navigate.
You can get a 2-4 GB card for around $10 or less. It would be much better to capture images at a usable m.p. size (> 8 m.p.) in case you ever want to enlarge them or print them. If you zoom or crop images at all that started with only 6 m.p. you’ll end up with radically degraded images.
However, if you’re just taking casual snapshots that you will only ever want to post to the Web, then 6-8 m.p. should work just fine.
Typically you can access the User Guides to electronic gear (including cameras) on the manufacturer’s website (e.g. Canon) in the section labelled Tech Support (or search on their website for “Powershot D10 documentation”). That way if you’re traveling you can find the info you need.
Most digital cameras can do that by simply shooting at a lower megapixel (MP) rating.
